Countering the threat of fascism and racism in Paradise Island

As a matter of the greatest urgency, we are calling for the broadest unity against the alarming rise in racism and fascism in Sri Lanka today.
Over the last few decade, racism in society have grown. As a result, we have seen an increase in racist violence and attacks on minorities in Sri Lanka. This has culminated in the rise of far right and fascist organisations.
As history shows, fascism stands for the total annihilation of whole communities, freedoms and democratic rights.
Sri Lanka has just finished a war against the LTTE. People are just starting to enjoy the peace and prosperity of a warless era after more than 3 decades. Now is the time to recover and ragain peace and social establishment, not the time to provocate another war or frustrate the social order.
Some groups and political parties are seeking to attract votes on the basis of racism. This is ultimately for their personal gains but the victims are mostly the minorities. They stand for the expulsion of minorities from this country, the destruction of the trade unions, the promotion of violence and hatred and the elimination of basic democratic rights.
UAF SL stand by any type of racism or fascism against any ethnicity, gender, religion or group. Our ultimate aim is for Sri Lanka to be a true paradise where people can live peacefully side by side…
